This is Representative Morrie Lanning. Contrary to the claim made by my opponent, I support the constitutional right of law abiding citizens to obtain a permit to carry a concealed gun. What I opposed five and one half years ago was the requirement that churches, colleges, and businesses post a sign at every entrance to their facilities saying that they ban guns in these premises. Many of us felt that this was an overreaching government intrusion into the affairs of private establishments. Knowing the reasons for a particular vote often sheds a much different light on that vote.
